If you are shopping for a Labrador for your family, you most likely have come across blonde Lab puppies and black Labrador retriever puppies. They are the two most common types of Labrador retrievers. There is also a third type – the chocolate lab, but the majority of families choose between the yellow Lab and purebred black Lab. There are vast differences aside from the obvious color you should understand before choosing the Labrador that is perfect for your family.

Yellow and Black Labs
Black Labs and Yellow Labs have many different characteristics.

Black Labs

Black Labrador retriever puppies have excellent tracking and hunting skills and prefer to be a worker dog. They are the type of Lab that is more likely to be active and need consistent exercise and activity to keep them out of trouble. The purebred black Lab is also known as a good police dog. Its ability to hunt or detect things easily gives them their ability to protect their owners from harm.

Black Labs have a distinct look with a gorgeously shaped head and eyes that define the meaning of puppy dog eyes. Black Labs in maturity reach an average of 70 pounds. They are a sleek, beautiful Labrador retriever breed.

Yellow Labs

Yellow Lab puppies, also known as blonde Lab puppies because of their light-colored hair, are perfect for families. The Yellow Lab is more known for its friendliness toward children and happy-go-lucky personality. Yellow Labs would much rather hang out at home with the family than hunt or work hard like the purebred black Lab prefers

Yellow Labs in maturity typically reach an average of 100 pounds. They are a little larger than the black Lab. Yellow Labs do tend to shed their yellow fur more often than black Labs, which is another consideration for you to keep in mind when choosing between the purebred black Lab and purebred yellow Lab.
