There aren’t many things that bring more joy than having a new Labrador puppy in the house. However, with all the joy and laughter the puppy brings, it also brings in dirt, hair, odors and other things. Cleaning up after a dog takes a little work, but when you are diligent with your Labrador puppy training, as well as taking some responsibility as a pet owner, you can enjoy a clean puppy and a clean house. Here are five different ways:

Trim Paw Nails Frequently

Not only will trimming your puppy’s paws save your carpet from getting snagged, but it will also make them more comfortable as they walk around the house and outside. Plus, dirt and debris can easily get trapped under your dog’s paw nails and travel inside. Trimming their nails every few weeks or months will go a long way in keeping your house clean.

Bathe Your Dog, But Not Too Much

Bathing your American Labrador retriever puppy will help prevent odors from latching onto furniture and smelling up the house. Your puppy will also feel more comfortable as long as you don’t wash them too much. Bathing them too often could strip their natural oils from their fur and lead to itchiness and possibly dandruff.

Brush Your Dog Regularly

Most Labrador breeds need their fur to be brushed regularly. Having a routine is a big part of Labrador puppy training, so the more you can set expectations for when it’s time to brush, the more your puppy will accept it. Brushing their fur regularly can prevent excessive shedding in the house and help them feel cooler, especially during the warmer seasons.

Pick Up After Your Dog

Picking up your dog’s waste is always courteous when you’re in public, but you should do it in your yard, as well. The waste can easily be stepped in and tracked inside if you aren’t careful. Plus, your dog will enjoy being able to run around the yard without trying to avoid it.

Always Have A Bag of Accessories Ready

When you’re in the middle of Labrador puppy training, you always need certain accessories readily available. Things like waste bags, water, a towel or wipes can prove to be extremely helpful. If they happen to step in mud or get dirty somehow, you can clean them off before entering the home.

It’s fun having an American Labrador retriever in the house, but it also takes work. By following these few simple tips, you can have a happy puppy and a clean house. If you’ve found these tips helpful, or want to learn more about Labrador retrievers in general, visit our blog for more information
