Labrador Hunting

Everyone knows that the Labrador Retriever is a beautiful, friendly animal; some may not realize, though, that this diverse canine has a rich history and fills many important roles in the lives of their owners.

While many dog owners prefer a purebred dog, there are many benefits to owning a mixed breed dog. A great combination is a Labrador and Golden Retriever mix. This new hybrid is called a Golden Labrador, although it is not officially recognized by the AKC.

Labrador Retrievers are well known for their superb hunting abilities, especially in retrieving fallen game in waterfowl hunting. When the breed was first developed in Newfoundland, the Labrador's incredible ability to assist hunters was the main reason this trait continued to be pursued in the breed. With selective breeding, the Labrador Retrievers that we know today are excellent for hunting, though they do require some training first.

Since ancient times, humans have recognized the advantages of having an animal companion when hunting wild game. Dogs have been seen as man's companion for centuries, providing everything from social companionship to protection.
